There is new excitement in the air at our home. Who would have thought that all things “Medieval” would totally sweep my girls off their feet with enchantment, intrigue, and absolute fascination??
I’m swept off my feet as well. So many tales to tell, history to unfold, and projects requiring cardboard to make.
Thankfully marigolds, a popular flower dried in medieval times, grows beautifully in our garden to ward off insects and rabbits. Flowers were snipped…
…a few handfuls were tied and hung in the basement. After a few weeks, the petals will be crushed, placed in a bowl, and used to scent these maidens’ bedroom. 100% medieval-style. (They bathe enough to not realize the impact the lovely fragrance would have had on daily life back then. )
This week is full of birthday baking, gift giving, birthday play dates, and ending with one special finale for Caroline and Johanna’s birthdays. I’m really liking the idea of letting the girls choose between a birthday party or a special family outing. (Oh course, I did influence them a bit since I knew they’d love the “outing” that involved eating with their hands and experiencing jousting.)
Johanna is the most wrapped up in the whole medieval adventure. Thankfully so, her Gaummie has spent hours making the most gorgeous gift that will make it even more magical. Can’t wait to share…
