So I’ve been asked quite a bit about the camera and lens I use on the STG. Here are the answers with a surprise (at least for me) at the end.
My Camera: the Canon Rebel T1i
My Lens: the Canon 50 mm f/1.4 Prime
If you haven’t noticed yet, let me point something out. All of my photos on the Sleepy Time Gal usually appear extremely close-up to the subject, like these buns. That’s because of the prime lens. It is excellent for portraits and never requires a flash indoors. It doesn’t zoom, so that means I move forward or backward (it usually is backward to fit everything in the photo.) I still love my prime for many reasons.
But, the prime can’t do everything. Which leads me to my good news. The addition of a zoom lens! A 28-135mm lens (technically Bobby’s early Father’s Day present from good ol’ Craig– Craig’s list, anyway.) That means no more breaking my neck to take photos in the hallway of my house just to get a photo of part of a room. No more uncomfortable close ups of people that would rather not have a close up taken. I still haven’t bonded with the lens, so you still might see my prime lens close ups in lots of photos as a comfort to me.
And speaking of comforts, can I just tell you how much I love baking day? One day a week to make whatever I want. To freeze, to eat right away, to give.
P.S. I’ve got some more exciting news: the Sleepy Time Gal now has awesome sponsors! I’ll be introducing you to them next week!
