When Bobby and I had our time away at the Glasbern Inn, I happily dozed off in our room’s jetted tub while Bobby took care of Rowan. There is something so old-fashion about the idea of the quiet, uninterrupted time spent bathing. Since then, I’ve consciously been trying to make time for real relaxation for my body and mind. (Did I tell you a friend introduced me to a local Himalayan salt cave on my birthday? So relaxing.)
And with this hopeful plan for regular relaxation I made some alluring aromatherapy-relaxation bath salts to make that time alone even more special and deeply relaxing both physically and emotionally. You’ll be surprised at how easy bath salts are to make and how wonderfully fragrant they are using essential oils you have on hand.
aromatherapy-relaxation bath salts
3 cups coarse sea salt
1.5 cups epsom salt (soothes tired muscles and reduces inflammation)
.5 cup baking soda (soften water and alleviate skin irritation)
essential oils (list below)
food coloring (optional)
Combine salts and baking soda and stir.
Divide mixture equally into four bowls.

Now the fun part: choosing which essential oils.
- Ylang Ylang
- Peace and Calming blend
- Clary Sage
- Ylang Ylang
- Joy blend
- Citrus Fresh blend
Add 6-15 drops of essential oils (or a blend of a few) to each bowl of bath salts. Stir. You can add a touch of food coloring for a hint of color to each bowl and mix well.
We made Evergreen, Tangerine, Lavender, and Ylang Ylang bath salts.
They make lovely little favors or gifts if filled in small ziplocks or corked glass jars. Each of my girls excitedly filled their own little baggie for themselves to use at bath time.

They are so pretty and the aromas are heavenly.
