a very busy day

Yesterday I spend most of the day spray painting a hand-me-down metal headboard for Johanna.  Bobby’s parents offered it to us since it had been sitting in their attic for years.  Thankfully my mother-in-law and I have similar taste and she agreed painting it would turn something not quite our style into the perfect little girl’s bed.

Yesterday was by far the worst day in the whole year to attempt to spray paint.  Blustery like you wouldn’t believe.  And I came up with an ingenius idea of spraying the headboard on torn out magazine pages.  If the wheels aren’t turning in your head yet I’ll go ahead and give you a hint: wet paint and flapping magazine pages = a lot of extra work.  But I was persistent and by the time the sun set, I finished both pieces, front and back, double coats.

My house looks like there’s been an internal explosion on most mornings.  You know how it is – all order is the first thing that goes when mama isn’t feeling quite herself.  Yesterday I had a bit of revelation, though, to the overwhelming task ahead of me with every pile and every corner of the house: focus on one corner at a time.  Brilliant, I know.  And so we began in the one room that has thoroughly gone unsupervised for days now, the girls’ art room.

I changed things up a bit and gave each girl some responsibilities to be proud of.  Ainsleigh was in charge of sharpening, a task she took quite fondly to…

favorite parties

Two things have happened simultaneously: finding these party photos from years ago and beginning to think ahead to my Annabelle and Ainsleigh’s third birthday in April.

I already know exactly what flavor of cake my twins want for their birthday (they tell me every few hours) and that we’re having a friend come and put on a puppet show.  The twins also say they want pink ice cream and balloons.  I think we can cover that.

These photos today are when Caroline turned four and was pretty obsessed with The Wizard of Oz.  Caroline helped me make one of my favorite party favors for her party.  Come see…

Good morning, friends.  It is a little odd to not have made an appearance yesterday – a Monday.  Let’s just say I’ve been fevering and sick and now some of my little ones are as well.

But more importantly, yesterday morning it was confirmed to Bobby and me that yes, indeed, I am carrying a singleton – not twins.  I am happy to experience a singleton again.  Baby was healthy yesterday – my first time seeing her on the black and white ultrasound screen – wiggling her wrists the whole time.

Good morning!  I’m still in shock at the March weather we’ve had the whole month of February.  I wonder what March will bring…

I’m so happy with the fabric covered ponytail holders.  They are easy to make (I can make a pair in five minutes) and I love how you can personalize them with your choice of fabric.

hair, the tote, and the brush

As I’m sure you can imagine, brushing hair and “doing” hair and “let me fix your hair” and finding lost hair ties is very much a major part of my routine with four daughters.  I try to be the good mom and brush and “do” my girls hair everyday despite the fact that many times when we arrive somewhere the “hairdos” have all been stripped from my girls’ hair or it is disheveled, etc.

But at least I try and at least the older girls get it and try to keep barrettes in and braids intact.  Thank you big girls!

adirondack patterns and a discount

February 17, 201213 Comments

Good morning to you on this chilly Friday.  I’m excited to share with you one of our newest sponsors on The Sleepy Time Gal, Adirondack Patterns.  I’ve heard from many of you readers that you are interested in sewing, possibly just beginning to learn to sew, or looking for simple projects to sew with little ones around.  Well, you’ll be very pleased with the wonderful and simple patterns at Adirondack.

You might remember my little Waldorf dolls I made for Ainsleigh and Annabelle this past Christmas.  I used an Adirondack pattern to whip them up and was really pleased with how easy it was to follow the pattern and how they both turned out.
