updating the writing box…

October 11, 20119 Comments

 IMG_9289

When I get around to it, I like to keep the writing box stocked with inviting notecards for not only my writing girls but for me.

There have been so many moments over the past year that we’ve captured through photography that we, in turn, turn into notecards.  Many Sunday afternoons the girls and I spread out the pile of notecards to find the perfect one to send to a friend.

projects revisited: removable knit flower

Good morning!  We have an exciting outing this morning that is right in our town.  I’m beginning to do more driving as my head (dizziness, vertigo, headaches) is doing better, in general. I’m so glad I made the switch with doctors and approaches to my health–I love my new chiropractor and her style.

Before I get the whole gang dressed, here’s a project from last fall.  An elastic/gathered skirt and clip-on flower.  These skirts are pretty much all I’ve made this past year because they are easy to whip up and look stylish with the wide elastic.

Have I mentioned that my Annabelle and Ainsleigh have all of a sudden turned into little girls?  Two and a half and they are so wanting to do and touch and feel and experiment with all the things they see us big people experimenting with.  And so they shall…

Homemade 3D paint is the perfect creative medium for their little hands and big minds.  You won’t believe it…

projects revisited: a bedtime map

As I sat yesterday morning staring at an X written on a post-it note for 10 minutes (for my vestibular rehab), I got to thinking about the stimulation around me that hurts my eyes and head these days with my vertigo and migraine symptoms.  No matter what was passing around me, I had to keep staring at the X.  There I was, tied down to that X by a timer, desperate to return home and to life.

My weeks are beginning to feel a bit out of control (with this very literal stimulation) with all of these appointments during the day.  I’m away from my kids, arranging help, and playing catch up with the normal day-to-day tasks of life.

chalk for a creative toddler: part 2

September 15, 20116 Comments

IMG_9064

Chalkboard paint went up right on Ainsleigh’s narrow wall, halfway up.  And there it stayed waiting for the chalk and basket.  A few days ago, they all were united with children’s scribbles and letters printed upon the wall.

chalk for the creative toddler: part 1

September 14, 20114 Comments

It all started with Ainsleigh’s “art” on my white walls.  The recurring art trend just wasn’t working for our entryway.  And dining room and library.

Taking matters into my hands, I thought an isolated corner in her bedroom would be the perfect chalk corner for her creativity.

playing with rocks

Good morning, friends.  I’ve felt a bit disconnected from this space lately with some personal health problems (hopefully vertigo, we’re still not sure) and trying to find the right rhythm in our home.  It feels good to be back after the long weekend.  So, hello out there.

If you were a neighborhood friend, ours would probably be the last house on the block you’d want to come to to play.  We’re the only ones without a swingset , one of the few without a trampoline, outdoor play house, scooters, lots of outdoor play things… need I say more?  I’ve stressed over this plenty, trying to figure out what I want for our kids.

I do love watching my girls make soup from sand (we do have a sandbox!), water, seeds pulled from our plants, grass, and stirred with a tree branch.  And I love seeing them have to be creative with what is out there–which isn’t much–in the front and back yard.

taking the ocean home

August 23, 20118 Comments

IMG_8668

When I did the routine packing for our week long trip to the ocean, I threw a few random things into my bag: a hot glue gun, adhesive magnets, and clothes pins.  For one, it is difficult for me to go too long without making something. And two, I wanted to create something with my girls (and their cousin Isobel) that would let them bring the ocean home with them.
