sewn paper house packaging

December 20, 20125 Comments

Welcome to our little neighborhood of paper houses!

Here’s a really fun way to package little things.  Come see…

With all of these covered button goodies to package for nieces and nephews and little friends, I wanted something to still show off all of the colors on the fabrics and watercolored jewelry cards.

I came up with sewn paper house packaging.

If you use parchment paper than you can 1) easily sew on it with your machine and 2) sew through it!

Simply put you little items to be packaged inside a fold of parchment paper.  With your sewing machine, sew around two of the three sides needed to make the base of a house (remember one side will be the fold).  Now create the pitched roof of the house in two stitches as seen above.  That’s it.

To save on time and paper, create your sewn houses close to each other in one sitting before cutting them out.

With decorative scissors, cut out the house leaving a nice 1/2 of paper from the seam.  Decorate the house!  I used a gold pen/marker so it added detail but wouldn’t take from seeing some of the goodies inside.  Add windows, a door, and a name.

The funnest part will be the child opening the package since they get to tear open the house to get its contents.

Any ideas you have for wrapping little gifts?  I’d love to hear.

Happy wrapping/packaging!

This is very cute, I might take on this as a school craft at school… I LOVE it…

This would be fun for any age child. You can sew any shape as well. And you could try different varieties of paper too. I’d like Caroline to try it on her own for some exciting shapes.

Cute cute cute! I love doing different things with my sewing machine! I sew through paper, cardboard and fabric scraps to make tags for my handmade items (but you could do it for any kind of tag or card).

For three little neighbor girls we used toilet paper tubes, wrapped them in tissue paper, pieces of wrapping paper, bits of tulle peeking out from the ends and letter stickers for their names.

Since I have a whole package of brown paper bags I used those for the kiddos’ cousins – a few of whom are getting similar items – stapled the bags shut, cut out wrapping paper circles, punched holes through them and the brown bag then threaded ribbon and a tag.

For an older cousin I stacked candy bars and was going to wrap some money around it but the candy bars were too thick. Instead, I folded it into what looks like a bow tie and tied it onto the stack of candy bars.

That’s the extent of my creative wrapping this year! Although my hubby’s gift(s) revolve around Santa’s reindeer, so I plan on making brown paper bag reindeer for each element of the gift. Still have to cut out all the pieces!
