Ahhhhhh… It is complete. Let me give you a tour and a few notes about some of the special things in the room.
Our front facing bookcases are simple shelves from IKEA. They have a slight lip in the front to hold the books well.
The desk and chairs were relocated to this room and are used hourly, most perfectly placed in front of the big window. This is where May Mouse (and other tales) were created.
The shelves and baskets (IKEA as well) are slowly being filled with everything they were intended to hold. More on that another day.
Here is a special print from Persimmon and Pink I’ve been dying to have in this room.
IKEA’s shower curtain and metal clips used for an art line.
I had been looking for some time for an alphabet print and love these letterpress prints from Sycamore Street Press. We actually go to church with the artist/owner’s brother!
(I’m still not sure if I love how tight the frames look around the print without frame mats.)
And then there are the pillows. I chose fabric that would work in the room with the other bold fabrics, something springy, as well. I envisioned the girls plopping down on them in this corner to do something. So I created an activity on the pillow. I just sewed a vinyl pocket so they could slide anything inside like a picture, lined paper, blank paper, mad gab pages… something that they could then write overtop with dry-erase markers for hours of fun.
This is Johanna doing what she loves–coloring in Caroline’s artwork. This way, Caroline can’t get upset.
The trickiest part of the room was enjoying the presence of the piano while still keeping the room functional. I like to sit down and play while they are all doing something in different corners of the room.
I kept paper flowers made from a church dinner and connected them to some wide ribbon to add something subtle to the wall. And some new fabric for the chair. I also like to sit here and just watch everyone in action in this new room.
Come on over and play!

Very beautiful…I love those big soft cushion pillows, and I love how nice and bright the room is. Just looking at pictures of the room inspires me so I can imagine how inspired your girls will be playing and creating in it.
)
We thought of painting the walls a color or painting a chalkboard wall, but I love the crisp white walls.
love it!
Is this the room that used to be the library — the first room on the lefft?
It’s beautiful!
I love this room! It’s very inspiring! We’ve been contemplating turning our guest room into a room like this for the kids so we can reclaim our living room and now, thanks to you, we may do just that. Wonderful! I hope the girls spend hours of creating and dreaming.
It looks great! I love the pillows – what a great idea!
I love it! What a beautiful transformation…..very impressed as always.
I love it!!! What a wonderful room!! Those alphabet prints are very cool. I’ve been meaning to do something like that art line for Isobel’s room to solve the artwork piling up on the dresser problem. Maybe you could do a tutorial for that? And the dry-erase pillows- what a fantastic idea! You are so clever.
I can’t wait to see it one day in person! And, even more, I can’t wait to see YOU in a few days!!
(P.S. – how did the wedding shoot go?)
Looks great!
Now you are going to think that I am making this up…BUT…we have that same white table and chairs set in our playroom!!! My great aunt gave it to us after her daughter’s children were done with it! Weird!
What an awesome room!
It is so solid. It was a gift from a friend from Pottery Barn Kids. We love it!
Oh love love love it! What a perfect place for everyone to enjoy! My favorite: the shower curtain art line! I might be stealing some of these ideas … if we ever have an extra room! You really are amazing.
What a perfect room to inspire creativity. I love it! …taking notes for when we have the space for just such a room! Thanks for sharing
Really beautiful … I would like to know from where you got your table and chairs. I have been waiting to get them from IKEA but it has been backordered. I wanted to paint them in white.
I love the shower curtain idea for displaying artwork that was beautiful. Did you get the shelving unit from IKEA as well? I loved how you assemble everything together. It looks very organized, functional, and practical.
The table and chairs are from Pottery Barn Kids–they were gift from a friend. But we also have the IKEA table and chairs downstairs that we also painted white years ago! The shelving unit is IKEA.
Beautiful!
the room looks so nice such a cozy space- What a wonderful memory space for your little ones.
I absolutely love it!
I love how bright the room is and all the bright colors. I also love the shower curtain line for the artwork. It’s such a clever idea. This room makes me want to create something too.
what a gorgeous space! thanks for sharing on ohdeedoh!
Gorgeous. I’m going to share this on my facebook page.
Beautiful!
So happy and cheerful and great placement of the furniture and art work.
I love the reading nook with the bean bag chairs. These have just been on my mind – but I’m hesitating. Seem super comfy though here
Beautiful and inspiring…well done! We have the same letterpress alphabet and number prints but in the green/brown combo in my daughter’s room – they were one of the first things I picked out for her nursery. Just curious if you bought the front facing shelves and shower curtain/art line recently from Ikea and if so, if you happen to remember the item names? I’ve been browsing their website and don’t see either item…not sure if it’s because I’m looking on the Canadian site. Thanks in advance!
So the curtain rod is called Dignitet at IKEA. Not sure about the shelves. I couldn’t find them on the site.
I love it Nicole! And so glad we could see each other!!!
The room is fabulous. I love the green fabric you used on the pillows. Where is it from?
The fabric for the pillow (and the fabric I framed over the book shelves) is from IKEA. I rarely get to make it to IKEA and loaded up on great stuff.
What a great room! Your kiddos are so very lucky!
I hit the jackpot stumbling across your blog today!! I’m printing off pictures of this room right now as inspiration for my kid’s playroom-to-be (it will be the playroom when it stops being the dining room. so many projects! so little time!)
Thank you for posting your ideas, pictures, and sources. Love this creative room.

I came across your blog while I was looking for playroom ideas for my girls. I love your shelves for the books. I have looked at ikea for shelves just like these, but can’t find any with lips on the front. Do you by chance know the name of the shelf so that I can look online? Thanks!

Thanks,

I don’t know the name – sorry!!! But these shelves were in their shelving section, out on display with frames on them. I’d ask a sales associate to help you find them. Good luck!!!
